In this exercise, you will use any word processing program, e.g.: Note Pad, Word Pad, Microsoft Word.


  1. Open your program that you will be using and type a small paragraph. (A few sentences will be fine)
  2. When you have finished typing, you are ready to save this typed document to your New Folder. (e.g. Gene’s Stuff)
  3. Move your pointer to the Text Toolbar and left click on File.
  4. Left click on Save As.
  5. A small window appears that will want you to direct the document to a place on your hard drive.
  6. In the Save In slot, you will notice that it reads Desktop. You will want to change this to (C:) Do this by a left click on the drop down arrow located to the right in the Save In slot. Left click on (C:).
  7. In the view window below, all the folders in (C:) Drive are displayed. Double left click on your New Folder. (e.g. Gene’s Stuff)
  8. Below you will find a slot that reads, File Name. Place your pointer into this slot and left click to get your blinking cursor. Type the name for this file, such as "My Typing". Left click Save.
