Repair Internet Explorer

It has been well known for a long time now that I.E. is very much a part of Windows O/S. Just ask the creators of the Netscape web browser. It stands to reason that if you repair I.E. you will fix different aspects of Windows. Below is a simple fix that might correct problems you have noticed with your machine. It is at least worth a try and it can't hurt a thing in the process. Another way of warding off problems would be to keep up to date with your updates from the Windows Update Site.

Now on with it.

Here are the panels you will encounter and the appropriate settings.

Internet Explorer 5 includes a new (rather hidden) feature to repair itself. Go to Control Panel and start the Add/Remove Programs applet. Choose Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools from the list and press Add/Remove. Select the middle option to repair Internet Explorer.

Tip:
Before running this repair tool, shut down all open windows and programs to let Internet Explorer Repair Tool do its work undisturbed

On this panel select "Repair Internet Explorer.

You might notice a bit of difference in your panel from mine. When I installed Windows 98 Upgrade I was prompted for saving the Windows 95 information so that I could uninstall Windows 98 and return to my previous Operating System of Windows 95 I elected not to save my previous O/S information. this greyed out my 3rd box.

After reading this panel, click Yes

Note:
I can't stress enough that reading is the most important thing you can do on your computers. If you want to stay out of trouble, Read, Read, Read.

This progress meter will let you know your progress of the operation. Well duh !

Just a little "eye candy"

Restart your computer with this prompt and you will automatically be returned to Windows and the Control Panel window. Exit Control Panel and carry on with your day. Total elapsed time is around 5 minutes, tops.

This should be considered part of your periodic maintenance. run it every now and then to make sure Internet Explorer and your Windows Operating System is up to snuff. To learn more about your periodic maintenance go to
